Lavender Gifts.

Recently I was lucky enough to have won some lovely gift from Annie's blog http://obsidian-hall.blogspot.com. Annie made these awesome lavender themed miniatures and I am so delighted to have won.

(You can find her miniatures for sale at http://www.etsy.com/shop/GypsyBoudoirMinis).

Thank you Annie for the lovely gifts... I so wish my Victorian house was finished so that I could show them in it. As you can see from my second photo, it is far from finished. You might be wondering why is it partially painted? Well, from reading other peoples blogs, many people have suggested to paint the wood before you wallpaper so that it adheres better. This was going to be my approach but after reading about other bloggers use of illustration board I might try that first.

On another note I have a question for people with knowledge of miniature shops in the UK and France. My Mum is going to be visiting the UK and France in the next few months and has been wanting for me to find out what shops she could visit in order to bring me back something for the dollhouse. I have mentioned to her before about the great things I find online followed by my disappointment that the seller does not post to Australia (or charges the equivalent of 3 times the item cost to post it). Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I particularly want Victorian themed things.

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments about the Phoenix range. It's in the shed having it's second coat of paint. My boyfriend has been painting up a storm in there! I must be becoming a predictable miniaturist though as his last thing he said to me when I was heading out to the shed was..."If your going in there your not to touch it!" How did he know that I wasn't just going outside to get the clothes out of the dryer?..he he

Have a great day. IndyPoppy

The Roof is on (But not complete)

It only took one afternoon to shingle the Little Blue House roof, but I was amazed just how many shingles I would need to do the job. I started out by drawing one inch lines along the roof sides and began shingling with a full shingle. You might be able to notice in the following pictures that I would need to trim the last shingle. Again my trusty cutter came to the rescue...so easy to cut.

The completed roof will need a gable(?) of some sort to cover the glue joints. I'm quite happy with the raw timber of the shingles at the moment, however it does make the house look very new. Can anyone spot my mini mistake? In all my attempts at painting the house the front right veranda pillar missed it coats of paint. It stands out terribly...so its off to the shed for a touch up.

Other than the roof I haven't done much mini-ing for myself. I have however been making some Easter Swaps for Fabiola's Easter Swap. You can check her blog at http://fabiolamiominimondo.blogspot.com.au.
It was the first time that I have entered a swap and I was a little nervous about it. Once my swap partners have received their gifts I'll show you what I made.

My last two photos today are my gifts from Little Rabbit Miniatures. http://littlerabbitminis.blogspot.com.au
I recently entered her competition to name her mini feline friend. My name "Whiskers" was chosen. I haven't had a cat of my own for many years and always thought "Whiskers" would be a good name if I had one.
Don't they look good outside the Little Blue House?

I have recently noticed that I have had many people join as followers. I haven't had a chance to thank you personally for joining but would like to thank you all now...so....

THANKYOU!!!

If you get a chance to comment on todays post I'd love to hear where you are from. It's great to know where you are in the world.

Well, have a terrific day...keep on mini-ing!

Sydney Miniatures Fair Part Two

Shops for your model railway scene.
Beautiful Diorama
Snow Scene

Christmas Room
As promised more photos of the fair. There were lots of great displays. (If any of these photos are of your work please let me know and I can label them correctly)

This dining room was part of a cupboard that had been converted into a doll house. Great idea that gives you a really good sized room to furnish.

One of many shops. A very cute flower shop.

A woodcraft Kit unfinished project.

The walls are not that bendy, just a bad photo.

An extra floor in here? What do you think?

The front doors are fidly too and keep falling off! I will have to rethink how they attach to the house.

Thanks to everyone for all your lovely comments. The search for a kit or new project continues.

To answer Audra's question.

What houses do they sell in Australia?

Many houses are for sale here but are extremely expensive. Only one shop seems to sell Greenleaf and only a small selection of them. Craftworks are an Aussie company as well but are a little out of my price range.

I think I will have to find a design then buy the parts. If anyone in blogland knows of any shops in Australia let me know.

The photo's up on the blog today are of an unfinished Woodcraft kit. I liked this kit but am really unsure of the scale. I managed to buy a matching woodkit for the furniture that fits the size. Putting it together is a pain (and still continues to be a pain) Bits don't quite fit and tend to fall off. Lot's of glue needed.

I decorated the house with both paint and stain to try and get the wooden window look. I still need to do quite a bit of touch up on some areas where paint has landed in the wrong spots. I had some help to score the wood to make it look like polished floorboards to save on recovering the floor. I would have also like to have added a floor in the center of the stairwell. The house is all stairs and funny size rooms that don't fit much furniture.

I wasn't sure about what to do with the furniture to finish it. I saw a blog yesterday that had many items from their dollhouse covered in scrapbooking paper, which look effective so I thought today I would give it a try.

My Christmas Project

I have recently embarked on an every growing project to create a 1:12 scale replica of my Mum's past business, a delicatessan and mixed business. I hope to blog about some of my projects and purchases along the way
