A kit comes together.

After a bit of persuasion my boyfriend started constructing my "Phoenix Kitchener". I watched eagerly as each piece went together and was so excited as each tiny detail was added. Ok so I was probably a little too excited and drove my boyfriend crazy saying things like "oh look at the tiny tap" and "I think this bit should go there".

I forgot to mention in my last post that I have also purchased some "coals" that will be connected to my lighting system.

We have started painting the kit and have found that using automotive spray paint seems to work well. When I install the range I will have to make a back for the range. The area behind the ovens will need to be black to mimic the range. I will also need to make a brick back for the area above the coals.

This purchase again has inspired me to look into other kits available. Look out eBay!!!!!
Hopefully in my next post I can show you the painted kit.

Have a great day,
IndyPoppy

    1. I love the little detail of the Phoenix also. It reminds me a little of the old "Kookaburra" range my Grandmar had when I was very little.

    1. It reminded me a bit of an IKEA kit. Lots of drawings to follow. Luckily when we finished it we didn't end up with extra bits. This has happened to me many times making IKEA things...then you think...oh no...what step have I forgotten?

And the first post I read is about the Phoenix kitchener that is my luck, because I have one also (I too loved the working elements)
but I'm not sure in which time people would have this in their home, so I did not put it together yet.
Must say, yours looks very good!

    1. Hi,
You could put yours together so we can compare :) Maybe you can give me some inspiration for the mantle piece to go around it. I'm a terrible decision maker.

  15. Hi Indy-Poppy! I love the look of the stove and you must be overjoyed that it is finally put together! What a great boyfriend you have! What type of glue did you find worked best on the metal? You know when I moved into my RL house, I had shiny white tiles around the fireplace hearth and I decided to paint them with BBQ heat resistant spray paint and that was 12 years ago and it is still going strong. So if you are looking for a black spray paint that is very mat and very durable, give BBQ spray paint a try! It works!

    1. Hi Elizabeth,
The manufacturer recommended araldite. Luckily in Australia they do stock it. (Sometimes when reading blogs from around the world people recommend stuff you just can't get "Down Under")

It comes in a double syringe that is two parts that you mix just before you use it. We used a bamboo skewer to mix it so that you could throw it away.
Thanks for the tip on BBQ paint....we have lots and lots of paint that we have bought for one project then we've never used it again...theres bound to be a tin of BBQ paint in there as well. I'll have to try it. IndyPoppy
