The Biggest purchase so far.

 Hello Everyone.
Over the past few months I have been making some decisions about the interior of my Victorian Dollhouse. I had been putting most of my focus on the kitchen. I had previously purchased a stove that I thought I'd put in in but after doing some research I found it would be more suitable for a 1920's house.

I'm sure, like most miniaturists, I've been focusing on the details...things like working doors, are a must for me. After some research I found the range I wanted.

I found "The Phoenix Kitchener". This range comes in a white-metal kit that you glue together and then paint. I'm planning to paint it with matt black paint to try and make it as realistic as possible.
As you can see there are lots of parts (Lots and lots and lots!) But I have had a quick dry run at putting it together and it seems to go pretty quickly together.

Of course having looked at it, it has inspired me to "add" to my dollhouse. It's going to be a big "add" though. I've decided that my dollhouse needs a proper basement with servants quarters. I've been brainstorming some ideas and had a look at lots of images and have come up with a plan. It means adding possibly an extra 2-3 rooms to my house which means I have 15 rooms to decorate....(What am I getting my self into???)

I'm also adding an external chimney to make it even more realistic. (The Kitchener should fit in it nicely!)
On today's post I have also included some photo's of my purchases from the ACTME fair in Canberra.

Little Metal Trainset
Miniature Theatre for the children's room.
Probably not at all victorian but cute plane.
Handmade fan.

Did anyone else attend this fair? There were lots of items to choose from. As I was thinking of purchasing the range, I didn't purchase much but was very impressed by the displays.

On another note I've noticed today that I'm up to 199 followers. Looks like I better start thinking of a giveaway to celebrate 200...

Have a great day..IndyPoppy

  1. Hello IndyPoppy,
I have seen those Phoenix kits and they are wonderful. They will be a great addition to kitchen. I also love all the other mini you got, but the train is wonderful.
Do not worry about the number of room. My house has 21 and I never felt overwhelmed...just tackle one room at a time. When it will be done you will be so happy to have so much space to work with, and since period authenticity seems important to you you will love all the extra "work" rooms. You can do it!
    Big hug,

    1. 21 rooms...WOW...ok my amount doesn't sound quite as scary then. I am excited about having the work rooms. I guess I have been watching way too much "Downton Abbey" and "Upstairs and Downstairs". IndyPoppy

  2. nice haul, the plane is my favorite but I dont think they had planes like that during victorian times, I think Hot Air Balloons and Blimps were the big thing back then.

http://www.epbot.com/2011/12/mini-hot-air-balloon-tutorial.html here is a tutorial for a hot air balloon but you can make is smaller for a childs room..it would still be an impressive toy

  3. You found a lot of nice items on the fair you visited. I am looking forward to see the kitchener finished. But Oh Dear...15 rooms to decorate....I have only 6 and sometimes I think I will be old and grey when I have reached the attic of my Miniature House at last. But then; I work on it in a very slow pace....

    1. I probably should have stuck to the original plan of 9 rooms. When I first got my house I actually thought it only had 9. It was a second hand kit that also ended up having an extension with 3 more rooms. My boyfriend keeps reminding me that the house is a lifelong project....but i'd really like to have much more done.

  4. Wauw 15 rooms that you have to decorate. There are so many hours of fun. I look forward to seeing some of your room. I see you have made some good purchase at the fair. Your little train set is so fine.
    Enjoy the work.

    1. The train has been very popular. It didn't come with a track (which is a little disappointing) I pictured it being in the children's room on it or have it running around the Christmas tree at Christmas.

Your purchases are fantastic, especially the train and the fun.

  7. 15 stanze un sicuro divertimento per un po' di tempo!Mi piacciono i tuoi acquisti ma il teatro mi affascina per inventarmi un sipario e dei personaggi adatti! Un saluto, Manu

    1. The theatre was an interesting purchase. I had planned to make a printable version but when I saw it I thought the timber would be fabulous. Maybe I will be able to make miniature curtains for it. That would be a major challenge.

  8. Hello Indy Poppy! What fun to visit a miniatures Fair and find things that you can really use right now! I am happy that you found a suitable stove while there. That is the chief piece of furniture for the kitchen and it just has to be right doesn't it? Nice to have that out of the way, but 15 rooms will certainly keep you busy over the next little while! Wow.

  10. I love Phoenix miniatures, they and Chrysnbon are about the only purchased items I indulge in. :) Your stove is going to be spectacular when it together and painted. I love your little plane as well, it would be perfect in my 40s house :D

It's a bit too easy to keep needing more rooms, my original 4 room cottage will have 11 rooms by the time it (if ever) is finished - all totally necessary as yours will be too. You won't get bored!

    1. Thanks for your comment Christine. When I received my kit it did remind me of Chrysnbon kits also. I have actually purchase one of their kits with saucepans etc to go with it. I thought both are worth putting a little effort into rather then buying pre made. I am excited, but a little nervous about painting it, I don't want to muck it up. IndyPoppy

    1. Hi John,
Look out, I've also spotted some conservatories for sale on eBay also...
This house is going to end up being bigger then my real life house!
I can't wait to see what you do with yours.

  13. Hey Indy,
I don't know if you noticed the blog post I published yesterday about winning the liebster blog award. I wanted to nominate you but you have too many followers! I'm having a bit of grief getting my 5 nominees to accept the award :) A couple said they don't want awards, a bunch I wanted to nominate had just a smidge over 200 followers, or a tonne over 200 followers, you have to have under 200 to be eligible. I tried emailing you at the email you have listed under your profile, it came up that that was not a valid email. There are two much easier (and arguably safer ways to have your contact info made available. I'd be most happy to tell you about them my dear. Oh, and for my sanity and possible the sanity of others, could you please read my blogging tip about how to remove the word verification feature. It's a myth that you have to enable comment approval to avoid spam. Even if you get spam, as the blog author, all you have to do is remove it. And i don't think miniature blogs are a huge target for say, pornographic spam :P
